Training university faculty on French open-source solutions – a use case
At OW2con’25, Jehan Monnier, co-founder of Belledonne Communications, and Pauline Perconte, Communications & Marketing Officer, presented a concrete use case focused on university training in French open-source technologies.
Proprietary solutions have long understood this logic: by familiarizing students early with their tools, they encourage long-term adoption of their technologies in the professional world. This approach often creates dependence on single solutions, mainly from Big Tech companies such as the GAFAM.
In response to this situation, our goal is to raise awareness among students, as well as faculty members, about European open-source alternatives, in order to offer greater freedom, technological diversity, and better control over digital tools.
This conference highlights the partnership established between Belledonne Communications and the University of Colmar to train students in open-source real-time communication solutions, in particular Linphone (calls, videoconferencing, chat) and Flexisip, the server suite.
During this presentation, several key topics were addressed:
- the creation of a structured multi-level certification program
- training faculty members in open-source technologies
- issues related to digital sovereignty
- the importance of raising awareness among future professionals about French open-source alternatives
Over the past two years, more than 130 students have already been certified by Belledonne Communications as part of this university collaboration.
