Switch from GNU/GPLv2 to GNU/GPlv3

Primary tabs

Starting from Linphone 4.2 and linphone-sdk 4.3 versions, all of our client open source projects will now be distributed under the GNU/GPLv3 public license.
These comprises the following projects:

linphone-desktop
linphone-iphone
linphone-android
linphone-xamarin
liblinphone
linphone-sdk
mediastreamer2
ortp
belle-sip
bctoolobox
belcard
belr
lime
bzrtp
bcg729

The GPLv3 version is mainly an improvement of the GPLv2 that clarifies a few aspects that were unaddressed previously. Especially, it prevents the circumvention of user's rights by technical means in hardware products, which was a common flaw with GPLv2. GPLv3 enforces the right for the user who buys a hardware product running GPLv3 software to modify the software.

Projects based on previous versions can still be published under the GPLv2 license, but all projects using our latest source code shall now comply with the GPLv3 requirements.

For companies who need to close their sources, we sell proprietary licenses. This change has of course no impact on customers that use linphone under a proprietary license.
