{"id":13553,"date":"2019-05-10T14:13:47","date_gmt":"2019-05-10T12:13:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.linphone.org\/?post_type=actualites&#038;p=13553"},"modified":"2025-09-01T15:22:38","modified_gmt":"2025-09-01T13:22:38","slug":"end-to-end-encryption-for-1-to-1-and-group-instant-messaging","status":"publish","type":"actualites","link":"https:\/\/www.linphone.org\/en\/news\/end-to-end-encryption-for-1-to-1-and-group-instant-messaging\/","title":{"rendered":"End-to-end encryption for 1-to-1 and group instant messaging"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Linphone is used by major actors in the security domain, who chose to leverage on a mature and robust open source softphone to build their custom proprietary solution for secure voice\/video calls and instant messaging.<\/p>\n<p>It has proven to be a legitimate candidate as it supports open standards and state-of-the-art end-to-end ciphering algorithms.<\/p>\n<p>With our latest release of\u00a0<strong>Linphone for iOS and Android (4.1)<\/strong>, we capitalize on the group chat functionality that we have developed over the past year, by bringing end-to-end encryption for both one-to-one and group instant messages.<\/p>\n<p><u>Linphone users with sip.linphone.org accounts can now :<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>create end-to-end encrypted text conversations with one or more participants<\/li>\n<li>from the conversations list, clearly differentiate not-encrypted conversations from encrypted ones, thanks to a shield icon and the number of stars on it<\/li>\n<li>upgrade the security level of a text conversation from one star (security level 1) to two stars (security level 2), by making calls to authenticate participants<\/li>\n<li>be notified when a fraudulent usage is detected (security alert), directly from the conversations list and within the conversation<\/li>\n<li>view the security level of each device of each participant in a conversation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For this purpose, we have implemented our own end-to-end encryption library for IM, named\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff5e00;\"><a style=\"color: #ff5e00;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.linphone.org\/technical-corner\/lime\"><strong>LIME<\/strong><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(Linphone Instant Messaging Encryption).<br \/>\nMore information is coming soon!<\/p>\n<p>Please note that these end-to-end encryption capabilities are limited to\u00a0<u>sip.linphone.org accounts<\/u>, and that LIME is excluded from Linphone\/Liblinphone proprietary licenses and sold separately.<\/p>\n<p>Contact\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff5e00;\"><a style=\"color: #ff5e00;\" href=\"mailto:sales@belledonne-communications.com\">sales@belledonne-communications.com<\/a><\/span>\u00a0if you are interested in integrating end-to-end encryption into your secure IM project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false},"actualites-category":[42],"class_list":["post-13553","actualites","type-actualites","status-publish","hentry","actualites-category-tech"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
